The most basic batting cage netting type is nylon. Nylon batting cage netting is extremely durable, has the highest breaking strength and has superior abrasion resistance. However, it absorbs water and can lose its breaking strength by up to 20% per year if left outdoors. It is recommended to treat your nylon batting cage net with NetSeal for maximum water resistance and durability.
Netting Gauge
A Baseball Batting cage netting will have a netting gauge which is a good indicator of how heavy-duty the net is. A heavier gauge net won't wear down as quickly over time as a thinner one will.
Generally, the less usage you expect the batting cage to see, the thinner the netting can be and still provide adequate protection. This is because younger players place far less stress on the net.

Netting Style
When purchasing batting cage netting it is important to consider the twine size (gauge). The higher the number, the thicker the net and the stronger it will be.
Another thing to keep in mind is the size of your batting cage. Larger cages are better for players who need the space to practice their swings. Additionally, larger cages are more durable and last longer than smaller ones.

Square netting is the standard because it will hang straighter than diamond netting and can easily conform to the shape of your batting cage frame. The square holes also allow the energy of a struck ball to dissipate throughout multiple rows of netting as opposed to being concentrated in one area which could potentially damage or injure your players.
